How to prepare for English Language Section of SBI PO Exam 2018?

State Bank of India is one of the largest banks of the world and recruits its own employees through Common Written Exam for the posts like SBI PO, SBI Clerk and SBI Specialist officers.
It has three sections in SBI PO 2018 Prelims exam which is going to be held in the month of July 2018. English Language section is one of the sections of the question paper of SBI PO Exam which needs lot of practice and basic knowledge. It is a test to examine the grammar and vocabulary skills of the candidates.

English Language Section has various topics on the basis of which questions are asked. Let us discuss those topics at length to make the English language exam- effective.

1. Reading Comprehension

This is a time consuming question. In order to attempt this question it is advisable to read the questions first and then read the passage. While reading the passage you will be able to locate the answers. In case you reverse the process, I mean if you read the comprehension first and then read the questions, you will have to re-read the passage to locate the answer. Reading twice will take lot of time and you will be wasting your time unnecessarily. Questions related to Synonyms and Antonyms against the RC question should be attempted first. The best way to attempt such questions is to go to the concerned line where that word appears and then mark the answer. It will give you accurate meaning.

2. Cloze Test

It is a passage based question with some words eliminated. This question is given to test the comprehension ability of the candidate. An ideal way to attempt the question is to read the sentence first and then find the correct option from the given substitutes. It will help you to eliminate the wrong or unnecessary options from the given ones and you will get the ‘BEST ANSWER” easily.

3. Sentence Rearrangement

To attempt this question effectively, first of all locate the opening sentence. Once you have located the opening sentence it will be easy for you to re-arrange the other connecting sentences successfully. This exercise is to test the logical ability of English language.  While arranging the sentences make sure all the sentences are interlinked with the previous one to give a logical read.

4. Spotting Errors/ Sentence Improvement/Correction

This question generally has some grammatical errors or no error. The best ways to attempt is to through the entire sentence and locate the grammatical error.

5. Vocabulary

Some questions are directly asked based on various vocabulary topics such as synonyms, antonyms, one word substitution, etc. In order to strengthen your vocabulary make the habit of reading newspapers, articles, etc. While reading make the list of the difficult words and find the meaning using dictionary and revise them daily. This exercise will help you learn many new and advanced English language words.
